As Chief Advocacy Officer at Finseca, Bob Schellhas leads the organization’s federal and state lobbying, grassroots, and political engagement efforts to advance policies that strengthen the financial security profession and the millions of families and businesses it serves. He directs Finseca’s engagement with Congress, the Administration, and industry partners to help create an environment where financial security professionals can deliver greater impact.
Bob brings more than two decades of experience navigating complex policy and regulatory issues. He previously served as a Principal with EY, Managing Director and Head of Federal Government Affairs at Citigroup, and Vice President of Federal Relations at the American Council of Life Insurers, where he guided legislative strategy across tax, retirement, and financial security priorities.
Bob’s career also includes senior leadership roles on Capitol Hill, including Chief of Staff to Senator Rob Portman and Deputy Chief of Staff to Speaker John Boehner, as well as key positions with Ways and Means Chair Dave Camp. His deep relationships and practical understanding of policy and political processes have been instrumental in advancing meaningful outcomes.
A co-editor of the bestselling Contract with America, Bob is also a committed mentor and a recipient of Central Michigan University’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
He lives in Northern Virginia with his wife, Caroline, their two daughters, and several pets, and enjoys weekends with his family in the Blue Ridge Mountains
