Michael Hefferon Honored with the 2025 Douglas Mooers Award for Excellence

Washington, D.C. (November 13, 2025) – NAILBA (National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies), a community within Finseca, is proud to announce that Michael Hefferon, a distinguished leader and visionary in the life insurance brokerage industry, has been honored with the Douglas Mooers Award for Excellence—NAILBA’s highest and most prestigious recognition.

Sponsored by MassMutual Strategic Distributors, the Douglas Mooers Award for Excellence is presented annually to an individual whose dedication to the brokerage profession, independent life brokerage, and the broader community exemplifies distinction and service.

This honor celebrates a career marked by professional achievement, commitment to advancing the insurance profession, and a dedication to philanthropy. Recipients are peer-recognized leaders who have left lasting impacts on the brokerage industry and their communities through exceptional service and innovation.

“This year, we had many deserving nominees, but one stood above the rest,” said NAILBA Leader, Warren May. “Michael’s leadership, humility, intelligence, and faith have shaped our industry in ways that will endure for generations. He is, quite simply, the very best of us.”

A humble and visionary leader, Michael is the Chief Strategy Officer at Brokers’ Service Marketing Group (BSMG). His career began at Columbus Life Insurance Company before moving to Crown Life and ultimately building his own agency—later merging with Ash Brokerage, where he served as Co-President. As CEO of BRAMCO, he became the architect of many IMO compensation and service models still in use today. His vision culminated in the merger of BRAMCO and LifeMark to create LIBRA, one of the largest Independent Marketing Organizations in brokerage.

Michael is known for his intelligence, quiet leadership, and integrity. A multigenerational insurance professional, devoted husband to his wife Judy of 38 years, and proud father of four sons and two grandchildren, he continues to inspire both his peers and the next generation of leaders.

One nominator summed up his impact best: “Michael is my colleague, friend, and mentor. He’s someone with a vision for our distribution channel, a demonstrated leader in our space, and a guiding voice for so many. He is deeply deserving of this recognition.”

NAILBA congratulates Michael Hefferon on receiving the 2025 Douglas Mooers Award for Excellence and thanks him for his leadership, innovation, and service to the independent brokerage community.
